Come and enjoy one of Dorset’s cultural treasures, the Dorset County Museum.

Six Galleries display the many treasures of the museum. Whether your interest is in history, archaeology, geology or culture, you are sure to find a wealth of fascinating information.

Two highlights of a museum visit will be the Ancient Dorset and Jurassic Coast Galleries. Starting with the Ancient Britons and in a tableau format, the Ancient Dorset gallery follows the lives and burials of the Romans, Saxons and Vikings.

In the Jurassic Coast gallery the fossilised jaw and skull of a Pliosaur has the title of the ‘World’s biggest bite’. Many other fossils from the museum’s extensive collection show the history of the Jurassic Coast.

A museum tea room and gift shop enable visitors to relax, enjoy a pot of tea or coffee and browse for unique gifts. There are always new events and exhibitions that will be interesting for the whole family, in short a must see attraction for visitors to Dorchester.

Please let Dorset County Museum know that you found them via the dorchesterdorset website when you visit or call. Giving this feedback will be very helpful to our future development.
