Taneyev - Piano Quartet
Fauré’s beautiful Élégie was intended as the slow movement of a never-completed cello sonata. Perhaps Fauré realised it would be played more often if it stood alone?
Taneyev, a pupil and confidant of Tchaikovsky and teacher of Rachmaninov, was greatly respected by these Russian greats. The Piano Quartet is one of his best pieces – with a slow movement to die for!
